Merge Worksheet

Joins selected data from any two worksheets into a new worksheet. This object requires that common sort keys be selected to create the output worksheet. The sort keys must match, that is, if Subject ID is selected as a sort key for one worksheet, it must be selected for the other worksheet.

Note:Exclusions are ignored when merging datasets.

Use one of the following to add an Merge Worksheet object to a Workflow:

Right-click menu for a Workflow object: New > Data > Merge Worksheet.
Main menu: Insert > Data > Merge Worksheet.
Right-click menu for a worksheet: Send To > Data > Merge Worksheet.

Note:To view the object in its own window, select it in the Object Browser and double-click it or press ENTER. All instructions for setting up and execution are the same whether the object is viewed in its own window or in Phoenix view.

Additional information is available for the following topics:

Mappings panel

The Mappings panel allows users to specify which columns in a worksheet are involved in the worksheet transformation. Required input is highlighted orange in the interface.

Sort: Categorical variable(s) identifying individual data profiles, such as subject ID.

Included Column: Variables or parameters mapped to this context are included in the output worksheet.

Sort Map panel

By default, the Merge Worksheets object requires that columns mapped to the Sort context have the same name. The Sort Map panel allows users to mix and match or override column names. For example, if the two columns being merged have different names, such as Subject and ID, the Sort Map panel can be used to specify matching columns in the two worksheets.

Example of a sort map worksheet

Worksheet_1

Worksheet_2

Subject

ID

Conc

YObs

In this example, the Subject column in worksheet 1 is joined/merged to the ID column in worksheet 2, and the Conc column in worksheet 1 is joined/merged to the YObs column in worksheet 2.

Check the Carry Along Data For Like Sort Levels box to replicate all data associated with the selected sort keys.

For example, if Dose and Time are selected as Included columns, and Subject is selected as a sort key, and each subject gets one dose at time zero, then the dosing values are included in the worksheet at every time zero, but at no other times.

Selecting the Carry Along Data For Like Sort Levels checkbox includes the Dose data for each subject and every time point.

Results

The Merge Worksheets object generates one worksheet and one text file. The output worksheet is arranged alphabetically or numerically based on the first selected sort key.

Result: The merged worksheets.

Settings: Text file containing input worksheets used and the options selected.
